Variations to the Great Thanksgiving

These variations are used as directed on page 468.

Each variation follows the words

...and reconcile all peoples to yourself,
their true and living God.

The text of the Great Thanksgiving resumes at the words

In your mercy you are now our God.
Through Christ you gather us,
new-born in your Spirit...

A
ADVENT

We give you thanks
because Christ the Sun of Righteousness
has dawned as our deliverance,
and as your power to renew the world in love and justice.

BC
CHRISTMAS AND EPIPHANY

In Christ you fully shared our life.
Light of the world, joy of every human heart,
Jesus accepted our estranged and broken state
and gave us back our life, our world-
renewed, whole, healed - your gift!

DE
LENT AND PASSIONTIDE

By Christ’s journey into darkness
are we all brought home;
by his agony and bloody sweat
are we come finally to life;
the tree of shame is now the tree of glory.

FG
EASTER AND ASCENSION

In the power of endless life
Christ is risen from the grave.
His death has broken death
and opened for us the new and living way.
Christ is now our peace,
our freedom and our joy.

H
PENTECOST AND MINISTRY

You pour out your Spirit on all.
You empower us to know your truth
and fearlessly to proclaim your gospel among the nations.
Your love fires our hearts;
and in your Spirit
we hunger and thirst for justice in the world.

Q
MARRIAGE

We give you thanks
because you draw together men and women
in a sacramental union
sharing your love with N and N.

N
SAINTS

We give you thanks for all your saints (especially N)
who heard your call to holiness
and obeyed the heavenly vision.
We rejoice in their fellowship
with us in our pilgrimage.
